No problem. One thing I wanted to add is that I took some measurements while I was there:

  • The tree that Maura hit is 130 inches from the road.
  • The ditch in front of the tree that Maura hit is 57 inches wide at that point (it slopes down, and then back up, but I am not counting the slopes in the width).
  • The ditch begins to slope down 34 inches from the road.
  • The ditch is 22 inches deep.
  • The tree that Maura hit is 21 inches from the one to the right of it, which is set back from the stand of trees). This could be important because I have a theory that the damage of the other side of Maura's car could have been caused by contact with the tree to the right of the one that she hit.

I took multiple videos, but I want to figure out a way to combine and edit them before posting. I did my best to try to explain what I was showing while filming, but I think I want to do a voice over instead. Or take my voice out and add captions.

EDIT:

I created a scaled comparison of the ditch to the car. This is only meant to show the relative length of the car to the length from the road to the tree. The actual dimensions of the ditch and the angle of the car are not accurately reflected by this image.

What did the ditch look like in ‘04? Do you have any info on that?

How are the ditch stats relevent, if it wasn't the same as in 04? IIRC local road crews made the prominent deep ditch years later for water runoff. When the Saturn was found in 2/04, there was only a slight angle off the road towards the woods. 2 entirely different things.......Pictures of the Saturn and the area after 2010, aren't the same as 2004 conditions IMO.......

The ditch looked substantially the same in 2006 as 2019. The depth might have changed, but the position appears to be the same.

My only criticism is the use of the following words:

The tree that Maura hit...

The ditch in front of the tree that Maura hit...

The tree that Maura hit...

..tree to the right of the one that she hit...

These are declarative statements when they should be considered hypothesis statements. A proposed answer to a question or problem that can be verified or rejected through testing. A hypothesis statement is typically an educated guess as to the relationship between factors, and serves as the basis for an experiment to test whether the relationship holds true.

There are 3 speculations made in these sentences. 1. The Saturn hit tree/trees 2. The "ditch" may not be relative to known conditions in 2/04, and 3. It has not been 100% confirmed that Maura was the driver

Yes it’s very well done. I don’t want to seem critical of this excellent contribution but I agree the language could state “in my opinion” or “my theory”. As a practical matter if we link to the index we would want it presented as a theory of the accident. I hope that makes sense as I know the accident and damage to the Saturn are still hotly debated. That approach may also reveal the issues that lead to different theories and may elicit a robust discussion.

It would be difficult if after 15+ plus years, if it wasn't done in 04. Your pictures and stats are well thought out and articulated here regardless. I wish it could be determined as well.....

Keys, Coins, Jewelry, Car Parts, Weapons. Pretty much anything. Maybe someone already has. Would likely need permission from the property owner I would think.

It very well may be. Probably by now a search like this is a moot point. I think the baby was thrown out with the bathwater evidence and search-wise when the understanding of circumstances of the accident itself were treated as a given fact rather than part of the puzzle.

Yes, but it is interesting how much "evidence" from the crash remains even today. The damage to tree, believed to be caused by the impact of the crash, is still visible (see my photos) and the smaller trees that Maura hit were not completely removed but, instead, chopped down.
